Transforming cancer care in Hampton Roads requires more than a dedicated team of caregivers. It will take an entire community, our community, to make the Sentara Brock Cancer Center a destination for hope, and many value-added services won’t be possible without philanthropic support. Your commitment to this destination for hope is an investment that will echo across generations and change lives throughout Hampton Roads.
Right now, Sentara is offering the chance to purchase a commemorative brick to be included in our Healing Garden at the Sentara Brock Cancer Center to celebrate a recovery, remember a loved one or honor a caregiver.
Tamara Mears, a Sentara team member, purchased a brick in memory of her father-in-law. She shared, “Miller Mears, Sr., was born and raised in Norfolk, VA. He spent 40 years on the Norfolk Fire Department where his son followed in his footsteps and has been a fire fighter for 43 years. The years of fighting fire for our community caught up with him as he developed a fast growing lung cancer that quickly metastasized and took his life. He spent many years bringing other patients to the Sentara emergency room and then it was his turn, having all of his care by Sentara physicians and in the Sentara Cancer Network. The care and compassion that he received during his time as a patient and later hospice were incredible. He always trusted his doctors and caregivers and in return they gave him impeccable care to the very end. This brick will be a reminder of his legacy to the city of Norfolk and to our family.”
